This is a skill you can use many times throughout your life. It can work with your child, those close to you and anyone else involved in your life and the life of your child—caregivers, neighbors, family, siblings
Identify and name the problem
Talk about how it affects each person involved
Think of possible solutions
Reach an agreement or compromise
Try it out. Did the solution help?

The steps in problem solving with preschoolers are the same as in all problem solving, but parents need to teach these rather than assume children just know how to do it.
